Emirates Cup 2010 Latest Match Report :: Arsenal FC vs Glasgow Celtic

The Emirates Cup is staying home .Arsenal lifted the trophy for the third time in four tournaments thanks to a 3-2 win over Celtic but what looked at one point like a Sunday stroll escalated into a frantic finish.

Carlos Vela set Arsenal on their way with a sliding finish in the third minute and Bacary Sagna smashed in a collector's item on the stroke of half-time.

Samir Nasri came off the bench to slot a third just five minutes into the second half but Celtic rallied and, after Georgios Samaras missed a penalty, Daryl Murphy fired them back into contention.Ki Sung-Yueng struck with seven minutes left to set up a tense finale but the hosts survived a few more alarms before heaving a sigh of relief at the final whistle.

It was fine entertainment for a near-capacity crowd at Emirates Stadium and, of course, this represented another useful workout ahead of the Premier League opener at Liverpool in a fortnight. It's always nice to win a trophy and Arsenal have become dab hands at giving their fans a pre-season cheer on home soil. The trick is to follow it up with a major pot next May.

Jack Wilshere was the architect, picking out Walcott with a sharp pass into the right-hand side of the penalty area. The England winger went for goal but scuffed his shot across the six-yard box where Vela slid in to gleefully convert. Celtic had barely drawn breath but they tried to respond. Shaun Maloney curled a free-kick past the Arsenal wall but Almunia took it on the bounce. Moments later his opposite number Lukasz Zaluska clung on after Tomas Rosicky whipped in a dead ball from a narrow angle. After 17 minutes Emmanuel Frimpong chased and harried an opponent only to leave a gap behind him. Morten Rasmussen raced into the box and held off his marker but, with glory beckoning, he sliced his shot horribly wide. Not long after, Efrain Juarez's finishing was just as poor.It was a reminder that Arsenal could not rest on their laurels but, as the half wore on, they racked up plenty of chances of their own.

Thomas Vermaelen lined up a howitzer which stung Zaluska's hands, Emmanuel-Thomas saw his attempted chip deflect wide after fine approach play from Rosicky and the Czech himself saw a shot fly off a defender's boot and away from danger. Just after the half-hour, Arsenal turned up the heat.Walcott scored a masterful free-kick during training in Austria and he clearly fancied his chances when presented with a dead ball from 30 yards. He was right to be confident - Walcott's curling effort forced an acrobatic tip-over from Zaluska.

A minute later Rosicky's raking pass to Vela sparked a wonderful flowing move. The Mexican found Clichy on the overlap and he feigned to cross before cutting the ball back into Wilshere's path. The teenager's shot bounced off a defender and prompted another decent save from Zaluska. Rosicky clipped the resulting corner to the edge of the box where Wilshere provided the non-scoring moment of the game - a perfectly-executed volley which crashed against the bar. Wilshere was up quickly to head the rebound goalwards but Zaluska's reactions were just as good and he made the catch. Once the usual suspects had tried their luck, Sagna showed them how it's done.

The right back has only scored once in an Arsenal shirt - a header at Chelsea in 2008. You would have got astronomical odds on Sagna lashing in a first-time 20-yarder with his weaker left foot, but that's exactly what happened after Rosicky had rolled the ball into his path. The celebration was as exuberant as you've seen and why not? Sagna won't forget that one in a hurry. You'd have thought the second goal would knock the stuffing out of Celtic and it seemed that way when Nasri grabbed a third six minutes into the second half. The Frenchman picked out Walcott and he twisted and turned inside the box before laying a return pass back for Nasri to find the bottom corner.

But Celtic - who fought back from a two-goal deficit against Lyon on Saturday - bounced back with character and style. Juarez had three chances of his own, just failing to connect with a left-wing cross, sending another effort wide and finally forcing a smart stop from Almunia after a piercing pass from Samaras. Samaras himself had earned the biggest laugh of the afternoon when he skied a spot-kick after Wilshere was penalised for running into Marc-Antoine Fortune. But Celtic got the goal their efforts deserved 17 minutes from time when a shot from distance hit Djourou, bounced off Frimpong and fell kindly for Murphy, who beat Almunia from close range. The Scottish giants scented blood and racked up the chances. Sung-Yueng's volley flew just over and Murphy squandered a one-on-one with Almunia. Arsenal failed to heed the lesson and Celtic broke down the right where Fortune squared for Sung-Yueng to score.

The boisterous Celtic support celebrated but they couldn't will their team to an equaliser. And so, for the third time in four years, Arsenal warmed up for the season by lifting a trophy in front of their home support. Now let's end the season that way.

Emirates Cup 2010 Latest Match Report :: AC Milan vs Lyon

Three games, three draws. That's the story of the Emirates Cup so far, not that many of those who have been watching will complain.

AC Milan took the lead against Olympique Lyonnais in match one of Day Two of this summer's tournament, but Jimmy Briand equalised for the French side with 10 minutes to go.

Just as they did against Celtic yesterday, Olympique Lyonnais started brightly. In the second minute Miralem Pjanic turned away from Rodney Strasser and skipped passed Clarence Seedorf, only to see his low drive hit the post. His wonderful trickery deserved a goal.

A minute later, Les Gones found the back of the net but the offside flag had been raised against Bafetimbi Gomes.

After his stunning goal yesterday Michel Bastos' first free kick was greeted with anticipant applause from the crowd, but it was hit low to the near post and was easy for Marco Amelia to scoop up.

Milan's first clear-cut opening needed a brave and alert Hugo Lloris to deny Borriello, who had looked to latch on to Alexander Merkel's near-post flick on from a left-wing cross.

Just before the half hour Briand forced Amelia to save at the near post and shortly after Bastos excited the crowd by twice lifting the ball over his man before volleying a pin-point cross to Briand, whose first touch let him down. Moments later Pjanic placed a good chance too close to the keeper.

Ten minutes into the second half AC Milan broke the deadlock.

The Italians kept possession from Olympique Lyonnais and Seedorf displayed wonderful vision to chip the backline and find Borriello through on goal. He exchanged passes with Merkel and slotted into the bottom corner.

A clutter of substitutions followed, though Alexandre Lacazette should have done better when a corner fell to him inside the area in the 70th minute. Moments later Briand was denied by Amelia at the near post.

With 17 minutes to play, Olympique Lyonnais hit the bar.

Jeremy Pied surged into the area, and despite slipping on the turn picked out Maxime Gonalons whose powerful shot cannoned off the woodwork. Lyonnais' search for an equaliser had accelerated several gears in a matter of minutes.

At the other end Milan had a dangerous free kick on the edge of the 'D'. Seedorf sliced it high and wide.

The goal Olympique Lyonnais had been pushing for came with 10 minutes remaining. Pjanic picked out Briand at the back post and he headed home. The pair had looked dangerous all afternoon and had come together to provide the equaliser their side deserved.

Harry Novillo flashed just wide of goal in the closing stages, but neither side could find a winner.

Nordtveidt as right back this season

Nordtveit Harvard, 20 years old, joined Arsenal as a center back and captain of the reserves from the position two seasons ago. But he played in midfield while the last term on loan at Nuremberg and has been operating at right back for most of the pre-season.
Arsene Wenger will play Harvard Nordtveidt at right-back position this season so he can add his experience.

That's because Wenger does not believe Nordtveit capabilities have been exhausted or simply as a central defender and hope it was a Norwegian player can improve his game by playing in different roles according to the desired Wenger.
"He can play as central defender," said the manager. "I still believe that he needs and will have more experience. That is why I tried to play him in a different position this season."

Battle for number 1

Lukasz Fabianski says that all the Arsenal goalkeeper really struggled to claim the No. 1 spot under the crossbar before the start of the season rolling.

Arsène Wenger has already stated that he was not currently have a goalkeeper who deserves to occupy the No.1 position. Fourth team goalkeeper has been featured all the pre-season matches so far. None of their goalkeeper Vito Mannone was conceded even managed to stop a penalty kick.
"It [the game] has been quiet except for Sturm Graz Pls i had to make two Saves," Told Fabianski Arsenal.com.

"At the moment I've not had a lot to do in the games but We have the Emirates Cup in front of us so That Will Be interesting.

"There is a big chance for everyone and as you cans see everyone is fighting really, really hard for that No. 1 spot."
so, Who Will Be The Goalkeeper no.1 for this season? We must wait until the season starts.

"We invest in our work, in our beliefs, the quality of our behavior and I am sure that will settle the mistakes we made last season.

Barcelona reveal Fabregas deadlock

Barcelona board spokesman Toni Freixa has hit out at Arsenal for failing to negotiate a deal with wantaway captain Cesc Fabregas.

The Gunner is striving to get a move back to his homeland, but the Catalan giants have failed in their attempts to take him to Camp Nou, after Arsene Wenger rejected their initial bids and Freixa has admitted the board are growing frustrated.

Speaking to reporters, he said:"Arsenal don't want to sit down and negotiate with us. It's not a problem with the wishes of Cesc or of Barca – they simply don't want to negotiate."

Meanwhile, Barcelona have announced huge losses of 77million euros over the previous year, according to vice-president of financial affairs Javier Faus.

Faus has lashed out at former president Joan Laporta after he suggested they were just 11million euros in arrears in June.

But after a further investigation, the true extent came to light, much to current president Sandro Rosell's disappointment.

"The figures presented by the former board don't reflect the real image. They have cheated. There is a structural problem. The sporting excellence in the last few years has not been reflected in economic excellence. The new board's goal is to bring economic excellence alongside sporting excellence," Faus said.

Cesc Fabregas tipped for one more Arsenal season

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta claims transfer target Cesc Fabregas will play one more season with Arsenal FC before heading back to Spain.

Fabregas has been involved in a protracted tug-of-war between the two clubs during the off-season, with the Gunners refusing to sanction the sale of their captain back to his former club.
The Spain midfielder reportedly told manger Arsene Wenger of his desire to return to the Camp Nou after seven seasons in north London but an initial bid in the region of £25million was still turned down.
Fabregas refused to discuss his club future during the World Cup and has remained tight-lipped following Spain's success in South Africa.

However, Iniesta claims that the midfielder will stay at the Emirates Stadium for one more season before finally returning to Barcelona next summer.

"Cesc wants to be with us, but he told me how close the Arsenal fans are to his heart, He is a special player and I hope he wins the title at Arsenal this season. For them to win Cesc will have to stay fit and injury-free but he deserves to finish with a title. For all the work he has put in at Arsenal it would be a shame if it was all fruitless.I have seen time after time Lionel Messi win games for Barcelona when the rest of the team have not been on form and Cesc can do that for Arsenal this season ," said him in the News of the World.

we are still waiting for the continuation of transfer rumors of the midfielder. :)

Sol Campbell becomes Newcastle United's new Defender

Sol Campbell has joined Newcastle United now. The famous centre back, whose contract with Arsenal ran out at the end of June, moved to St James' Park today on a one-year contract.

It brings to a close Campbell's second spell under Arsène Wenger. His first tenure began in 2001 when he made the short journey across North London from Tottenham. He went on to be the defensive rock in the 2002 Double side and the Invincibles team that won the title without losing a game two years later.

He left in 2006 but returned in January this year, playing 14 games in the latter half of the campaign.
In total, Campbell made 211 appearances for the Club, scoring a dozen goals. His most famous strike came in the 2006 Champions League Final when he headed home Thierry Henry's free-kick for 10-man Arsenal to take the lead and he made it again against Barcelona in UEFA Champions League at Quarter Final stage, but the result was 2-2.

Everyone at Arsenal Football Club would like to wish Sol the best of luck with Newcastle United. :)

Arsenal Pre-Season Friendly Match Report : SC Neusiedl 1919 vs Arsenal FC

The Arsenal Pre-Season Friendly Match Result in Austria against SC Neusiedl is 4-0 for Arsenal FC. In this match, Marouane Chamakh opened his Arsenal account after completed their Austrian training camp with a straightforward 4-0 victory on Tuesday night.
In the first half, Theo Walcott and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas make score , 2-0. The Moroccan's moment came five minutes after he had come on as a half-time substitute. He burst through only to be pushed over by Markus Dombi. Chamakh picked himself up to slot home adroitly from the spot.

Shortly afterwards, another substitute, Carlos Vela, produced the coolest of chips to make it 4-0.

SC Neusiedl also has an opportunity . The referee give them a penalty. However Juray Skripec could not beat Vito Mannone from 12 yards.
The opening quarter of an hour was pedestrian. Jack Wilshere had a shout for a penalty, Andrey Arshavin curled a shot into the arms of keeper Adolf Kaiser and Emmanuel-Thomas showed fine feet in the area but could not follow it up with a shot to match.

Neusiedl's opening chance would be much more clear-cut. In the 16th minute, Michael Koller swung over a corner from the right and skipper Dombi stooped at the near post to thunder in a header. Nasri booted the ball off the line.

It took Arsenal a further 10 minutes to respond. Arshavin's angled shot bounced off Kaiser's shoulder and eventually fell to Walcott at the far post. He cut inside his marker but saw his shot blocked.

However, couple of minutes later Walcott would open the scoring - and from virtually the same spot. Arsenal worked the ball up the left once more. Emmanuel-Thomas found Nasri, who fed the England winger. He arrowed his effort home.

On the half hour Walcott beat the keeper once again but his lob drifted wide.

By now Arsenal had found their groove. Second later, Gibbs cut the ball back for Emmanuel-Thomas to turn swiftly before cracking home a second.

Five minutes after the restart it was 3-0 when Chamakh made his mark.

By now Arsenal were in the zone. In the 65th minute, Nasri's clever touch sent substitute Vela through and the Mexican lifted the ball over the stranded keeper.

However seconds later Neusiedl had the chance to reduce the arrears when Dominik Silberbauer's header was handled by Nordtveit. Skripec stepped up to try and make a little piece of personal history.

However Mannone dived to his left to make a fine stop.

The game petered out after that. Neusiedl were not going to get a better chance and Arsenal had used up their creativity for the night.

After the game, Wenger's men left for England with their season's preparation well on track.

Welcome To Arsenal Blog

Welcome to Arsenal Blog! This blog will give you all information about The Gunners, ARSENAL FC. All preview and review match, match result, match report, transfer linked, rumours, etc. will publish here. As you know , Arsenal FC is one of the biggest club in London, England. It has many supporters around the world.

Arsenal is lead by Arsene Wenger as manager. Arsène Wenger arrived at Highbury in September 1996 after notable success at Monaco and a stint in charge of Japanese side Grampus Eight. He was the Club’s first boss from outside the UK.

Arsenal finished fourth that season but the new manager would officially announce his arrival in his first full campaign at the helm. At one stage in 1997/98 the Gunners trailed leaders Manchester United by 12 points. However, imperious form throughout the second half of the campaign saw Arsenal crowned Premier League champions with two games to spare. Within two weeks, the Gunners had added the FA Cup, securing the Double in Wenger’s first full season in charge.

As well as transforming Arsenal on the pitch, the new manager set about revolutionising his players’ lives away from the pitch, implementing cutting-edge training regimes and dietary systems. The Frenchman was meticulous in his squad construction, adding the likes of Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit and Marc Overmars to a team already boasting Arsenal institutions like David Seaman, Tony Adams and Dennis Bergkamp.

Another Highbury stalwart who continued to flourish under Wenger was Ian Wright. Already closing in on Cliff Bastin’s all-time goalscoring record when the Frenchman arrived, Wright finally scored his magical 179th goal against Bolton Wanderers on September 13, 1997. In the end, perhaps Wenger’s finest signing to date – Thierry Henry - would eclipse Wright’s tally a little over eight years later.

Henry signed in August 1999, after Arsène Wenger’s side had been denied back-to-back titles by one point by Manchester United in the previous May. At first, the Frenchman’s ability to adapt to the rough-and-tumble of the Premier League was questioned, but after failing to score in his first eight games, the former Juventus star plundered an impressive 26 goals that term. Final defeats in the Uefa Cup and FA Cup meant that Henry was still without any Highbury silverware. But not for long.

In 2001/02, Arsène Wenger’s side would surge to a spectacular Double, finishing 12 points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League. They sealed the title with a win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, just days after dispatching Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup Final.

Despite lifting the FA Cup once more in 2002/03, back-to-back titles would again elude the Gunners. But they made up for that disappointment in the season that followed, completing an unbeaten title campaign and going on to eclipse Nottingham Forest's long-standing run of League games without defeat. Played 49, Won 36, Drawn 13, Lost None - that Arsenal side was truly 'Invincible'.

Wenger had conquered England but Europe still evaded him. A Quarter-Final defeat against Chelsea in 2004 was the closest Wenger’s Arsenal had come to the biggest prize in European football but that would all change in May 2006 when they went all the way to the Champions League Final in Paris.

Arsenal were quickly becoming one of the most revered sides in Europe. And they underlined their ambition when, in February 2004, construction began on the Gunners' new state-of-the-art home at Ashburton Grove, a stone’s throw from Highbury. The new Emirates Stadium officially opened its doors in the summer of 2006 - a bold step into the future for a Club with a glittering past.

So enjoy this blog. :)
